Responsibilities

Draper is seeking a Senior Business Development and Program Manager who will be responsible for developing and managing programs in our Maritime Business Area, which develops innovative solutions to challenging national problems for the United States.  

 

The program manager will develop and execute a strategy for growth working closely with existing sponsors and leveraging the deep technical expertise of the entire Draper organization.  The candidate will have demonstrated leadership in program management, possess programs experience with this customer base, and have a strong technical and operational background in relevant missions and technology.  Responsibilities will include leading critical programs, including program capture, development, planning and execution.  Demonstrated management capability and experience with the overall program life-cycle from proposal through execution is essential.  Past experience with undersea naval programs is required.  This position will support the Draper Mission Systems Director in the development of strategic plans and provide recommendations for research and development.

 

You are comfortable partnering with customers to shape, develop and capture opportunities with science and technology (S&T) and acquisition customers, and have demonstrated success in this.  You’re able to foresee challenges relevant to this customer set, and using a broad understanding of technology, you devise and articulate game-changing solutions to the customers in a compelling way. You are a visionary, system-level thinker in a wide application space, and are comfortable being evaluated on your success in capturing opportunities and executing on them. 

 

You will build upon deep technical capabilities at Draper, with access to the creative skills of almost 1,000 engineers and scientists to devise innovative solutions for S&T and acquisition customers.  You will develop and manage the strategy for capturing intellectual property (IP) and will lead teams generating and protecting IP. Ultimately Draper and others will develop these technologies into products, systems and capabilities for defense, national security and adjacent applications.

 

You will lead an established business with several active programs and pursuits in areas such as precision navigation and timing (PN&T), human centered engineering, and autonomy.  You will extend current capabilities to address new applications, as well as establish growth in these and adjacent areas.  These adjacent areas may include technology protection, system architectures, robotic manipulation, and high-fidelity sensors.

 

You are a visible member of the mission systems leadership team; and you advise senior leadership on technology and investment trends in defense and adjacent commercial industries. 

 

You will contribute to strategy development and the alignment of company investment with future business opportunities.

 

You are Accountable For:

 

This person holds management accountability for all technical, financial and schedule performance on multiple programs and capture efforts.

  • Achieve all financial, technical and schedule objectives for programs and new business initiatives.
  • Devise and implement systems to shape, pursue, capture and execute targeted programs.
  • Lead and influence the performance of multi-functional teams which include engineering, finance, contracts, legal and program management.
  • Anticipate customer needs to ensure satisfaction and continued business.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Support the development of annual operating and multi-year business plans
  • Recruit top talent to help build new capabilities inside and outside your team.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related field. 10+ years of experience in program management, and prior operational experience with undersea systems is required. 
  • Additionally, the candidate will have a technically versatile background with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and/or new applications; and, the ability to develop a vision for the business and create new opportunities.
  • The candidate will possess an intimate knowledge, and track record of successful business interaction with major relevant organizations.
  • The candidate must be persuasive, a strong relationship builder with excellent communications, presentation and networking skills. 
  • Must have the ability and interest to understand and embrace Draper’s mission as a not-for-profit R&D laboratory.
  • Eligible for TS/SCI Clearance required, active TS/SCI desired. 
  • MS degree highly preferred, however, extensive career experience will be an important factor.
