The Secure and Assured Systems team is composed of a diverse group of highly creative security experts that design solutions for some of today’s most challenging problems. We continue to invest in that distinction, by leveraging Draper’s capabilities in materials, micro-fabrication, electronics, algorithms, and software to create revolutionary products. We imagine, design and build it in house, including hardware and software.


Our team is looking for someone to engineer solutions for tomorrow’s problems. This candidate will aid in the design, development, integration and testing of secure, reliable, and high assurance systems. These systems range from full-fledged servers down to the smallest of sensors. No matter the size, they must tolerate both malicious attacks and benign faults, while preserving data integrity and confidentiality.


Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and innovative individual with deep expertise in security for embedded systems that understands the tradeoffs with fault tolerant solutions. They should also have a deep understanding of the complexities and trades between the hardware and software solutions. The individual will be a key stakeholder in shaping technology development roadmaps, will tackle complex problems, and execute fast paced programs.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • In the context of embedded systems, define security & reliability requirements, analyze concept of operations, perform program information analysis, develop system requirements, create system architectures, analyze cost/schedule/vulnerability tradeoffs, develop flow down requirements and implementation concepts to subsystems, design/build and test system solutions.
  • Serve as a thought leader in this domain to generate and secure IP. Lead activities in support of development of long range and near term technology development plans.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to uncover and address technology development and business development opportunities. Lead cross-functional technology development teams, work to deadlines, often with short notice, while successfully managing multiple projects.
  • Execute complex projects, tasks, and assignments with minimal or strong management direction.


MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering, or in a technically relevant field with a strong Computer Science and embedded hardware background. Requires 1 – 5 years of experience, based on degree, in design and definition of secure reliable embedded systems.

  • The successful candidate must have a strong grasp of the tradeoff between hardware and software to ensure the development of secure and reliable systems.
  • Experience in developing the systems requirements, architectures and building one or more of the following and familiarity with others is a must: Encryption systems, trusted platform modules product and system certification.
  • Ability to parse, evaluate and red team secure architectures and perform analysis of alternatives in secure design.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, innovation, creativity and collaboration are a must. Highly developed communications, presentation, collaboration and influencing skills are necessary.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others who may have ongoing competing priorities and viewpoints, including company employees, peer competitors and customers is a must.


Willingness to travel (20%). Ability to acquire and maintain a secret clearance is desired. Active or recent DoD security clearance is a plus.
