Reporting to the Technical Director of Product Lifecycle Management, the PLM System Architect provides technical leadership and direction for all information technology functional areas within Draper’s implementation and support of its Product Lifecycle Management System.  This is a large-scale hardware/software deployment that will impact 2000 users and hundreds of sponsored projects with continued deployment and migration over the next 3 years.  Responsibilities will include architecture of network and servers to host the Dassault ENOVIA PLM system to satisfy security requirements, provide connectivity to external users, and optimize performance.  Planning support is also required for production-level deployment of the Dassault ENOVIA PLM system.


The PLM System Architect is responsible for ensuring a high level of interoperability between the PLM environment, other Enterprise systems, and customer-specific applications.  Responsibility also includes coordinating with Information Services to plan, implement and support architectures and HW/SW solutions that support ongoing operations, meet performance and reliability goals, and comply with Corporate and Customer requirements for backup, disaster recovery, security and other applicable policies.  Responsibilities also include the development and execution of technical roadmaps to support ongoing growth and migration of data and applications into the environment.  Ongoing stakeholder communication and outreach is required to ensure customer (internal and external) requirements are incorporated into all technical solutions.

Serving in this role requires an individual to be a self-starter, working both independently and as a team member. Strong communication skills for interfacing with the broader PLM team, vendors, partners, customers and the IT community are required.


Primary Duties:


Architecture Strategy and Leadership

  • Manage the planning, procurement, deployment, and maintenance of PLM hardware, software, licensing, and multiple ENOVIA environments supporting development, test and production
  • Lead domain technical and business discussions relative to future architecture direction for PLM enterprise implementation.
  • Align architectural strategy with business requirements
  • Analyze, design, and develop a roadmap and implementation plan based upon current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint

Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Continuous Improvement

  • Set information architecture standards and methodologies for the PLM project aligned with corporate and customer requirements
  • Support and participate in developing policies, standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Design and establish standard configurations
  • Analyze the current architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements
  • Foster a committed team atmosphere by embodying the corporate values


  • Develop overall architecture review, control, and governance process
  • Plan and execute changes to system architecture, including ENOVIA updates, configuration deployment, integration of 3rd party tools into the environment
  • Establish support framework for building Project / Program and other templates within the ENOVIA environment.  Establish general policies
  • Review exceptions and makes recommendations to architectural standards at a domain/program level



Required Knowledge and Skills:


BS degree in a technical discipline with at least 10 years of demonstrated experience in architecture of enterprise systems. Experience is desired in the following areas:

  • Satisfying enterprise system security requirements (NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, DIACAP/RMF)
  • Satisfying backup, fail-over and redundancy requirements
  • Planning and managing deployment of a large business system (release procedures, regression testing, etc.)

Candidate should also possess leadership skills including the ability to research, plan and execute tasks with limited supervision, and have demonstrated ability to:

  • Be flexible within a variety of changing situations while working with various individuals and groups
  • Communicate ideas or positions in a persuasive manner that builds support, agreement, or commitment

  • Identify and act upon opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Develop plans that meet the architecture/technology needs of the organization while incorporating business priorities, strategies, goals, emerging technologies, industry trends, and economic viability

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience implementing and /or supporting medium to large scale Dassault 3DExperince / ENOVIA implementations
  • MS or other advanced degree.
  • ITIL and Project Management certifications.
