Responsibilities

The Missile and Guided Systems GNC group at Draper is seeking a system architect with broad technical skills to work within multi-disciplinary teams to conceptualize, develop, and/or evaluate robust weapon system solutions for the war fighter, including (but not limited to) advanced missile systems, interceptor systems, and enabling guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) technology.

 

A successful candidate will be:

  1. proficient in systems engineering methods/practice for the development of integrated hardware/software systems;
  2. able to conceptualize and innovate higher performing system solutions leveraging advances in GNC technology;
  3. capable of planning and executing individual tasks (as identified below) as an individual contributor on a multi-disciplinary team as well as leading teams as necessary;
  4. a skilled communicator, able to distill and brief complex technical concepts to senior internal and external management;
  5. highly motivated to support the delivery of technology solutions that are of strategic importance to the nation;
  6. dedicated to developing the in-depth mission and technology domain expertise that enable realization of such solutions for complex missile systems.

Tasking may include: identification of customer needs, requirements analysis and flow-down, system concept/architecture development (including analysis of alternatives), system design, interface definition/control, verification/test planning, development of systems engineering documentation, model development, vehicle and mission-level simulation development, performance assessment, documentation of analysis results, and presentation of results to both internal and external stake-holders.

 

The opportunity to work as part of team developing a state-of-the-art GN&C system will provide exposure to a wide range of advanced technologies, including inertial sensors, precision electronics, and advanced algorithms and will enable growth opportunities for a motivated individual.

Qualifications

Applicants must have the following key qualifications:

  • An M.S. degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline;
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with missile or aerospace systems;
  • Demonstrated experience and sound knowledge in core technologies (guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), aerodynamics, actuation systems, electronics, embedded software) as well as practical systems engineering skills required to integrate these core technical disciplines;
  • Demonstrated practical experience with systems engineering for defense systems;
  • Experience in system modeling and dynamic simulation development;
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex technical ideas.

 

Any of the following additional qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Subject matter expertise depth in the area of missile guidance and/or navigation;
  • Experience with SysML or other system modeling languages;
  • Experience with model-based engineering techniques and approaches.
