Draper’s Distributed Computing group is looking for a DevOps Software Engineer to work alongside software developers supporting a number of different engineering domains and projects across defense, commercial, and internal research and development portfolios.  The role will require coordination with Draper IT Linux administration staff as well as innovation in the management of multiple clusters, and on non-traditional systems like vehicles and real-time OSes. 

 Activities for this position may include:

  • Building application specific clusters
  • Virtualization
  • Building specialized Linux kernels and hardware drivers
  • GPU management
  • Container architectures
  • Continuous build environments


Working with Draper IT Linux administration staff, additional activities include:

  • Building systems
  • Patching systems
  • Backing up systems
  • Networking configuration and management
  • Maintaining security postures


A successful candidate will be:

  • Detail oriented
  • Focused on repeatability and reproducibility
  • Driven to automate everything

 Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Linux system administration experience
  • 3+ years of managing 20+ machines in a Linux cluster
  • Redhat and Ubuntu experience
  • Networking configuration experience
  • bash scripting
  • python
  • RAID configuration experience
  • US citizenship
  • BA/BS, preferably in software engineering, computer science, or mathematics

  • Docker, Kubernetes
  • Linux operating system tuning
  • Hadoop, Spark
  • Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
  • OpenStack
  • TS/SCI clearance


This position will require the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.  Main requirement for a security clearance is  US Citizenship.
