We are seeking a Biomedical Engineer or Research Scientist to join our Cell and Tissue Engineering group and collaborate with staff members in the design, development, characterization, and application of microfluidic systems for use in cell therapy. The ideal candidate will be fluent in molecular and cell biology, have significant experience in gene modification/genetic engineering, and able to work closely with engineers to analyze experimental results and relay information for further design development. The position requires enthusiasm, passion, attention to detail, and a desire to create important tools for the production of new medicines.   • Collaborate with the engineering team to design, model, fabricate, and characterize technologies and devices for genetic manipulation of cells
    1. Design and carry out molecular biology experiments to assess cell modification or genome editing outcomes
    2. Design and carry out cell biology experiments to assess changes in cell health or function
  • Develop and execute laboratory research plans that support project goals and milestones.
  • Design experiments, execute assays, troubleshoot, and analyze data for studies that involve microscale platforms
  • Culture and maintain primary cells and cell lines in standard culture and in novel systems.
  • Design and execute biochemical, molecular, and image-based assays to monitor cellular viability, differentiation, and function.
  • Present and publish results.
  • Train and mentor junior staff, students, and post-doctoral fellows.
  • Interact with university and corporate collaborators.
  • Assist with development of internal capabilities by providing technical expertise.
  • Generate project concepts and contribute to proposals based on sponsor input and recently-published research.
  • Present findings in small groups and in company-wide settings
  • The position will involve significant hands-on laboratory work in addition to coordination of lab staff and resources. Supervision of staff and students may be required.



  • PhD in cell or molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or equivalent field with 5 or more years of industry or academic experience.


  • Extensive experience in primary cell culture, genetic manipulation/engineering, and molecular biology
  • Extensive experience designing and carrying out molecular biology experiments to address genomic questions
  • Broad experience in working with lentiviral vectors, electroporation, aaV vectors and gene editing technology
  • Prior experience working in commercial research is preferred
  • Prior experience managing associate researchers
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques for quantifying DNA/ RNA (e.g. qPCR, ddPCR)
  • Research experience in cell-based assays and/or complex, microscale cell culture systems and platforms, and mammalian cell culture and characterization is required.
  • Expertise in microfabrication techniques and technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with culture of immune system cells and/or stem cells is preferred
  • Working knowledge and understanding of biochemical, cell and molecular analysis techniques (immunostaining and ELISA), light microscopy, genetic modification and characterization, metabolic analysis, flow cytometry analysis (FACS), and nucleic acid isolation and amplification is expected. 
  • Understanding of physiological concepts and structures within organs and tissues of the human body, including immunology, is preferred.
  • Experience in writing innovative R&D proposals to commercial and government sponsors is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience in developing and qualifying Cell Biology methods utilizing mammalian cell culture, transfection and cell-based assays
  • Inter-personal skills: Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with peers and effectively work in a fast-paced and cross-functional results oriented research team environment
  • Ability to work within tight time-lines for successful and timely execution of project and program goals
