The Draper Complexity Solutions Division is seeking a self-motivated systems engineer to develop models and perform analysis of system behavior in a multi-disciplinary manner.  You will join a team designing innovative, first-of-a-kind complex systems that integrate advanced technologies in order to solve challenging national problems while satisfying requirements and maximizing stakeholder value. To effectively address these challenges, the ideal candidate would have the ability to become knowledgeable in various problem domains, identify relevant modeling and analysis techniques, develop or integrate multi-domain quantitative models and present results that support system-level analysis, performance trade-offs, and decision-making.

Typical job duties may range across designing, developing, validating, and maintaining models and infrastructure for design, assessment, and analysis of complex systems.  In addition, the candidate will work as a member of a cross-functional engineering team to frame the challenges of customers in military, space, intelligence, and commercial applications to help the customers better articulate drivers of system performance or value and understand key design trade-offs.  A working knowledge of parametric modeling, optimization, data visualization, and/or other advanced methods for conceptual design are highly desired.

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in engineering (ME, EE, Aero), Computer Science, or relevant technical field of study.
  • Experience formulating and developing quantitative models or applications in MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++, Python, JMP or Java.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in cross-functional project teams.

Experience with any of the following is preferred, but not required, for consideration for this position:

  • Conceptual system design methods such as Tradespace Exploration (TSE), Multi-Objective Decision Making (MODM), and/or Multi-Disciplinary Design and Optimization (MDAO) techniques
  • Risk and uncertainty analysis or using probabilistic design methods such as Monte Carlo simulation or real options analysis.
  • Requirements exploration, prioritization and analysis methods such as quality function deployment (QFD), analytical hierarchy process (AHP), affinity diagrams or design of experiments (DOE).
  • Statistical analysis and visualization software such as JMP or Minitab.
  • Model-based engineering (MBE) frameworks and integrated modeling tools such as ModelCenter or OpenMDAO.
  • Full-stack web development or commonly used web frameworks and languages.

Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
