The Deputy for Operations and Project Execution will report to the Algorithms and Software Director.  Responsibilities will include:

  • Proposal review with focus on feasibility of execution and ensuring that required resources will be available,
  • Program, software development, and task plan review,
  • Mentoring staff on best practices,
  • Project and GC-led task execution oversight with emphasis on risk management,
  • Spearheading corrective action plans which address project execution challenges,
  • Working with the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)/Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) team to incorporate desired metrics and dashboard tracking,
  • Project execution oversight, including coordinating with Draper’s Principal Director for Engineering and his staff,
  • Collaborating with the GC administrative team to ensure that project startup and execution needs (e., project space, capital equipment, IT resources) are met.


The Deputy for Operations and Project Execution must have sufficient technical breadth to adequately provide planning and execution oversight to Division-wide efforts, with particular emphasis on embedded software development and hardware/software integration.  The position requires working with Division Leaders across the Directorate, which includes over 300 staff and is organized as follows:


  • Information and Cognition Division
    • Human Centered Engineering, Machine Intelligence, and HPC/Cloud Computing.
  • Signals, Sensors, and Navigation Division
    • Navigation, Real-Time Embedded Software Development, and Signal Processing.
  • Autonomy, Guidance, and Control Division
    • Open Autonomy Software, Model-Based Design and Software Development, and Guidance and Control Software Design.
  • Secure and Assured System Software Division
    • Mission Critical Software Design, Fault Tolerant System Software, and Cyber-Physical Security.



  • M.S. or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent with 15+ years of relevant experience in the project leadership for algorithms and software development.
  • The qualified candidate must have prior organizational leadership experience and demonstrated success in working with large, cross-organizational teams.
  • Experience with both Government and Commercial applications is a plus.
  • The qualified candidate must be performance driven, a self-starter and have demonstrated consistently outstanding performance in his/her career.
  • The ability to work within a team environment is a must. 
  • The final candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. 
  • An actively Top Secret Clearance would be preferred.
