The Draper Special Programs Office is seeking a Senior Program Manager to manage projects related to National Security Space Systems.  The candidate will have solid experience leading teams of innovative engineers to develop advanced technology capabilities that break through prior performance limits while managing significant technology risk.    In addition to demonstrated skills in leadership and managing complex Space Programs, the ideal candidate will have a history of technical contributions and innovative solutions. The candidate should have a background in the domains of Space Situational Awareness, space protection, and resilient Space Systems.  Responsibilities will include leading critical space program capture, development, planning and execution.  Demonstrated executive leadership management capability and experience with overall life-cycle from proposal through execution is essential.  Past experience with Space Programs is required.  



The candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be U.S. citizen
  • Security clearance: Active Extensive Background Investigation to hire; ability and agreement to obtain TS/SCI required, including submitting to a polygraph
  • Education: Required:  B.S. Degree in Engineering or Physics from an accredited 4-year university; Desired:  M.S. degree from the same; specific experiences may offset this requirement at the margin with hiring manager’s discretion
  • 15 Years of experience in the development, executive leadership and/or management of complex technical systems involving delivery of capability within cost, schedule and budget constraints; preferred that the majority of experience be in space systems to include the domains of Space Situational Awareness, space protection, and resilient space systems
  • Demonstrated professional performance in the following areas:
    • Program Management skills in achieving cost, schedule and technical requirements
    • Ability to successfully form and lead teams and build relationships
    • Ability to take circumstances with substantial uncertainty and make decisions/recommendations based on the best evidence and current business environment
    • Possession of an intimate knowledge and track record of successful business interaction with major commercial and government organizations
    • Acumen and negotiating skills in matters of internal business and customer relationships
    • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and/or new applications, and to create new opportunities
    • Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to persuasively and effectively communicate complex problems and concepts succinctly
    • Strong relationship building with effective networking and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and interest to understand and embrace Draper’s mission as a not-for-profit R&D institution dedicated to making an impact on the most challenging unsolved national security problems
  • Demonstrated track record of adherence to Draper core values: Act with Integrity; Treat each and all with respect; Exceed customer expectations; Commit to excellence; Be bold in your reach
  • Submittal of at least three references of professional performance and character, to include a recent supervisor
