Draper is seeking a Group Leader for Solid Sate and Polymer Materials Engineering Group. This position is a dual-role where the candidate will spend a portion of time offering management support to the group and the remainder of the time directly contributing to and leading projects. The desired focus for the direct contribution is in area of materials designed for harsh (high temperature and/or ionizing radiation) environments. Another focus of interest is a candidate with reactive materials engineering expertise for a variety of applications. A candidate with experience and technical expertise in the materials processing, engineering, and device/materials co-design is sought. The ideal candidate has experience in technology development and has demonstrated technical depth, but is adept at learning new technical areas.
The Group Leader will be responsible for growing a talented staff of engineers and scientists, enriching core expertise and engineering capabilities, cultivating idea formation and proposal writing, and staffing of executing programs. The candidate will be expected to put the group on a path of continuous growth and extending the portfolio of technology offerings and capabilities. This group develops novel material solutions in a variety of domains, including solid state electronics, electronic packaging, thermo-electrics, and reactive materials.
The ideal candidate will have an MS or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related fields such as physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
Skills and experience in the following areas are sought:
-Reactive materials engineering and/or materials engineering for harsh thermal and radiation environments
-Experience with advancing the state of the art in materials engineering
-Task leadership experience
-Mentoring junior staff and students
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Experience writing proposals and reviews
This position will require the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance. Main requirement for a security clearance is US Citizenship.
