We are seeking a motivated junior laboratory researcher to join Draper’s Synthetic Biology and/or Cellular and Tissue Engineering groups to assist in the design and development of novel technology solutions for addressing critical challenges in healthcare. This work will support R&D efforts across both commercial and government sponsored programs.  The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, observant, collaborative, and dedicated.  We offer an atmosphere that fosters innovation, individual contributions within a team environment, intellectual freedom and creativity, and an emphasis on career development.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute a variety of molecular, biochemical, cellular, and/or analytical assays of various formats
  • Develop and optimize experimental protocols and analytical methods to be compatible with Draper’s novel technology solutions
  • Culture and maintain mammalian primary cells/cell lines OR bacterial strains in standard culture and on novel platforms
  • Analyze and interpret results in the context of the project goals for dissemination to internal project management, external customers, and/or publication
  • Support lab organization and maintenance as needed, such as sourcing and preparation of reagents and materials


Desired Qualifications

  • BA/BS or MS in a biology discipline, biomedical engineering or other relevant field, with 1-5 years relevant laboratory experience
  • Experience with aseptic mammalian cell culture OR bacterial culture/handling. Experience with both and experience with co-culture of heterogeneous cell types is a plus.
  • Proficiency in standard biological assays such as PCR, ELISA, Luminex, immunofluorescent staining, and epifluorescent or confocal microscopy
  • Experience with molecular cloning, protein expression/purification, nucleic acids is a plus
  • Experience with microfluidics, laboratory automation (e.g. Labview, Arduino, Python, etc.), and statistical analysis
  • Previous experience contributing to multidisciplinary teams on mile-stone driven projects
  • Well-developed organizational, time-management, and communication skills (oral and written) are required
