As a Development Engineer in the Electro-Optics and Instruments Group, the candidate will play a critical role in the development of Electro-Optic and Atom-Optic inertial instruments. This engineer will work closely with a team of engineers and physicists to develop, prototype, and test cutting-edge prototype instrument designs. The candidate will be heavily involved with building gyroscope and accelerometer prototypes and characterizing their performance. The candidate will be expected to spend large amounts of time in the lab, performing hands on tasks with the test hardware. Once familiar with the hardware and associated data, the candidate will be expected to reduce and summarize data for further review by engineers and physicists. The candidate must be able to work with multidisciplinary teams and must possess good communication skills.
Doctorate degree in physics, electrical engineering, or related discipline is preferred, though strong candidates with Master’s degrees will be considered. A strong physics background is highly desired. The candidate should have laboratory experience and experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, free space and fiber coupled optics. The candidate must be competent in a programming language such as, but not limited to, MATLAB, C++, Python, Mathematica, etc. and be capable of writing software routines to run laboratory experiments including data collection, storage, and basic data reduction. The individual must be highly self-motivated and must thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
