    The candidate will apply user-centered research and design to create usable, engaging, modern, and intuitive interfaces for cutting-edge systems sponsored by the US Government, commercial customers, and internal research projects. The candidate will have a deep understanding of human factors or interaction design best practices and experience in applying these practices to highly technical systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable designing at both the system and the detailed user interface level. Areas of work may include: big data analytics, decision support tools, multi-person collaborative systems, situation awareness tools, trusted autonomy, human-robot collaboration, and human-autonomy teaming.  Specific projects may require the candidate to design for users in high cognitive workload situations, users attempting to solve complex data problems (including data visualization and overcoming cognitive bias), and safety critical operations. The ideal candidate is an assertive self-starter, with strong communication skills to clearly relay strategy, rationale, and vision in order to engage colleagues and build ideas in a team-centered environment.



    • Planning and executing research plans for contextual inquiry
    • Synthesizing, capturing, validating, and presenting research findings to stakeholders
    • Translating research findings into feature sets
    • Planning and executing project work




    • Experienced in user-centered research and design, including contextual research methods, human factors, UI design, and usability evaluation
    • S./B.S in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or other human-centered design or engineering field
    • Prior experience working in industry desired
    • Creative individual, collaborative team player, outgoing, self-starter, entrepreneur
    • Solid experience with prototyping and design tools, such as Axure, Sketch, InVision Studio, and the Adobe Creative Suites
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
    • Active security clearance strongly preferred
    • Experience building or leading software teams is a plus
