The National Security & Space Systems Division Leader will be responsible for the organizational leadership and second line management of a broad team of Technical Staff Members, Contractors, Administrative Support Personnel, and the Division's graduate and undergraduate students aligned with Draper’s National Security & Space business. Leveraging the company’s expertise in secure & assured systems, GN&C, autonomy, embedded systems and cyber security, this organization supports NS&S mission areas in developing early stage concepts to “build-to-print” solutions. By performing system-level trades and model-based systems engineering, this organization works collaboratively with Defense Systems, Special Programs and Space Systems Program Offices and other Draper Engineering organizations to design, develop, build, and deliver system solutions for our customers. The NS&S Systems Division resides within the Systems Engineering Directorate in the Engineering Organization.
Specific Division Leader Responsibilities will include:
1. Organizational leadership including the development and technology transition of Draper National Security & Space Solutions.
2. Business development technical support for the development and advancement of Draper Defense, Special Programs and Space Systems.
3. Management of staff hiring and recruiting.
4. The development and implementation of the Division's Strategic Plan.
5. Oversight of the quality of execution of projects led by Division staff.
6. Implementation of systems engineering best practices, including novel approaches to model-based systems engineering and trade space exploration within the Division.
7. Personnel resource management for projects staffed by the Division.
8. Career development of the future leaders of the organization through mentoring, growth assignments, professional seminars, and other educational opportunities.
9. Management of the division’s overhead and capital budgets, including oversight for the division’s autonomous systems and embedded computing lab facilities.
B.S. required (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent with 15+ years of relevant experience in the leadership of strategic systems research and development. The qualified candidate must have substantial prior organizational leadership experience managing a large group or team of people (15+) as a project leader, technical director, or line manager. Experience achieving results through proven use of other leaders is essential.
The Division Leader will engage systems architects and engineers in solving mission-level challenges across Draper’s NS&S business. Therefore, experience in shaping and/or leading programs and technology development in one or more of these NS&S mission areas is required:
The qualified candidate must be performance driven, a self-starter and have demonstrated the ability to set organizational vision and achieve results. The ability to work within a team environment is a must. The final candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. An existing Top Secret security clearance, or the ability to obtain this clearance, is desired.
