    As Quality Engineer (QE) with Draper Laboratory the QE will be responsible for providing quality assurance support and guidance as part of a team of engineers, developers and project managers for product manufacture, modifications to existing products, test and test equipment.  The position is located at Draper Laboratory in Pittsfield MA.  Specific responsibilities include the following.


    • Represent Draper Quality and provide supplier oversight and general on-site presence for Draper which is the design and procuring agent for the hardware.
    • Participate in internal review boards (IRB) and material review board (MRB) meetings. Identify nonconformance trends, develop and administer technical investigation and corrective action programs to resolve recurring quality problems and to improve supplier quality.
    • Conduct internal and external supplier audits
    • Collaborate with procurement and inventory control personnel to ensure adequate control of purchased parts and materials.
    • Evaluate suppliers with regard to technical capabilities, production and quality processes, and business practices.
    • Monitor and drive continuous improvement at both Draper and subcontractors to enhance quality and delivery performance.
    • Perform root cause analyses as needed to drive appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
    • Participate in the development and qualification of new processes.
    • Accept hardware by performing source inspection and data review before product shipment.


    The candidate must have or be able to obtain a US government security clearance.  It is important that this individual be a self-starter and able to interface at multiple levels within the organization.  Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to readily adapt to changing priorities are required.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

    •  A Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university or equivalent military or professional work experience
    • Five (5) or more years of experience as a Quality Engineer or Seven (7) or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrable skills in Root Cause/ Corrective Action, Opportunities for Improvement and Process Control
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills
    • Ability to prioritize effectively and handle shifting priorities professionally
    • Ability to travel 25% of the time to US based locations
    • Experience with Quality Standards ISO 9000 and AS9100 or Government equivalent for the Trident Program




    This position will require a [Secret] Security Clearance.
